The always fantastic Milosz Wozaczynski with “The Personal Trainer”

Wozaczynski is a Polish photographer who primarily works in large format, this piece is shot on 8x10.   I find his work playfully surreal with a much cleaner, less cluttered feel than Joel Peter-Whitkin or Jan Saudek.  I find his work is at its strongest when he has several models to work with as his way of finding a relationship between them is impeccable.

His blog (in Polish) can be found here: http://wozaczynski.com/blog/

His portfolio site is here: http://www.wozaczynski.com/

Alfred Krupp by Arnold Newman.

Krupp originally didn’t want to have Newman take his photo as Krupp had used Jewish slave labor during WWII and Newman is a Jew.  Newman argued to take the photo based on his extensive portfolio and Krupp agreed.  Which gave Newman the opportunity to extract a little revenge.

I had seen this photo in a number of collections but knowing the back story makes it that much more sinister.  Photos never stand on their own, they’re a little piece of time and knowing what happened in that moment makes all the difference.

Newman talks about the session here:

Tennessee Williams by Karl Bissinger.
From the NY Times Obituary of Bissinger.  I really like how the Times handles multimedia, especially photography for their articles.  Its very clean design.
